Lakeside Labs is a non-profit organization for scientific research and further development of self-organizing networked systems based in Klagenfurt, Austria, Europe. Our goal is to apply and improve methods of self-organization in the fields of IoT, robotics, production, transportation, and energy.

Lakeside Labs is located at the Lakeside Science & Technology Park, adjacent to the university campus and international IT companies. Senior Researcher in Complex Systems Engineering
with Emphasis on Production Plants or Energy Systems

We are searching for a senior researcher (or researcher) to drive the development and integration of concepts of self-organization and swarming within European or national funded projects with different applications in the domain of production plants or energy systems. This comprises research in the field of distributed swarm algorithms, adaption of algorithms to application-specific requirements, as well as the integration of distributed intelligence. On top of this, you will acquire research projects with industry and other research institutions.

The candidate is expected to have a doctoral degree (or master degree for the researcher position) in complex systems, engineering, computer science, physics, or applied mathematics.

Experience in at least two of the following fields is mandatory:

  • Networks, network dynamics, graph theory
  • Distributed algorithms, swarm algorithms
  • Genetic algorithms, evolutionary design
  • Model-based development, agent-based modeling
  • Concepts and methods for production plants or smart grids

Experience all of the following skills is mandatory:

  • Good knowledge in Python
  • Very good English language skills

Experience in some of the following skills is welcome:

  • Simulation tools (e.g., Netlogo, Mesa)
  • Proposal writing for funding projects on national and EU level
  • German language skills

Senior Researcher in Mobile Robot Systems

We are searching for a senior researcher to drive the development and integration of concepts of self-organization and swarming within European or national funded projects with different applications in the domain of cyber-physical systems and swarm robotics. This comprises research in the field of distributed swarm algorithms as well as the integration of distributed intelligence. On top of this, you will acquire research projects with industry and other research institutions.

The candidate is expected to have a doctoral degree in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or complex systems.

Experience in at least one of the following fields is mandatory:

  • Robotics
  • Distributed algorithms, swarm algorithms, agent-based modeling
  • Networks and communications

Experience in all of the following skills is mandatory:

  • Good knowledge of C/C++ and/or Python programming
  • Experience in working in international teams
  • Very good English language skills

Experience in some of the following skills is welcome:

  • ROS, simulation tools (e.g. MESA, Gazebo, Netlogo)
  • Proposal writing for funding projects on national and EU level
  • German language skills

We are searching for a senior researcher to drive the development and integration of concepts of self-organization and swarming within European or national funded projects with different applications to edge/cloud computing, IoT, and cyber-physical systems. This comprises research in the field of distributed swarm algorithms as well as the integration of distributed intelligence. On top of this you will acquire research projects with industry and other research institutions.

The candidate is expected to have a PhD in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or complex systems.

Experience in at least two of the following fields is mandatory:

  • Networks, network dynamics, graph theory
  • Distributed algorithms, swarm algorithms
  • Genetic algorithms, evolutionary design
  • Model-based development, agent-based modeling
  • Concepts and methods for edge and cloud computing
  • Microservices (-orchestration)
  • Virtualization/containerization (docker containers)
  • Machine learning, reinforcement learning
  • Micro data centers
